A Townland called Iragh
A townland is the smallest division of land in Ireland, and there are over 60,000 of them. A letter addressed to someone in a townland would need no other identifying information than their name. In terms of land divisions in Ireland, there are: Four Provinces - Ulster in the north, Leinster in the east including Dublin, Connaught to the north west and Munster to the south west. Iragh is in Munster. 32 Counties before 1921, now 26 in the republic of Ireland, or Eire. There are six counties in Munster - Kerry, Cork, Tipperary, Limerick, Waterford and Clare. Iragh is in Clare. 11 Baronies in County Clare. Our three parishes are in Upper and Lower Tulla, comprising East Clare. 11 Parishes in Lower Tulla, either Civil (Church of Ireland) or Roman Catholic with largely congruent borders.
